Greeting card checklist

Work through these checks on the exported artwork, then check the proof before approving your order.

Before you upload

  1. Confirm the ordered flat and folded sizes, orientation and fold direction. Identify whether the card opens from the side or the top.
  2. Set up the outside spread with the cover and back, and the inside spread with the message. Confirm which panels should remain blank.
  3. Print and fold a paper mockup of the horizontal or vertical layout. Check that the cover and inside message read upright when the card is opened.
  4. Extend backgrounds 0.125 inches past every outside trim edge. Keep essential text and logos at least 0.125 inches inside trim and clear of folds. Avoid thin borders that make small cutting shifts more visible.
  5. Keep the greeting and signature area clear of the fold. If you plan to write on the card, confirm that the chosen stock and coating suit that use.
  6. Check image quality at final size: aim for 300 dpi for these products. Use CMYK unless the product setup specifies otherwise.
  7. Embed fonts or outline text, include placed images and check transparency in the exported file. Export as PDF, PNG, JPG/JPEG or TIF/TIFF.
  8. Read every panel at actual size. Verify spelling, phone numbers, addresses and QR codes. Remove visible layout guides from the final artwork.
  9. Upload clearly labeled files for each side. Review the proof for panel order, rotation, size and finish, then approve it before printing.
